Objective
Cancer Tumor Cells (CTC) in the blood stream need to be isolated by this specialized multi-hole array device by creating a flow having cross-hole and tangent components. Red Blood Cells (RBC) are highly deformable cells that can pass through the holes while CTC are blocked at the entrance.
Optimal sorting and best washing-out CTC is obtained by a fine tuning of the device, and the holes dimater in the present study.
Design 1
Design 2
The holes diameter of Design 1 is 9% bigger than Design 2. The thruput of Red Blood Cells is however 300% bigger demonstrating the importance of details on the performances of the device.
